Member, Steering Committee at Kid's Against Hunger (DC Metro)
May 2013 - Present
Kids Against Hunger DC Metro (KAH DC Metro) is a humanitarian food-aid organization that combats hunger in the United States and around the world by packaging and distributing nutritious meals to malnourished people. KAH DC Metro is a Washington D.C. affiliate of Kids Against Hunger, which has over 80 affiliates across the U.S. and Canada.
Our satellite organizes packaging events in which volunteers gather to prepare meal packets from four basic ingredients namely rice, soy, vitamin powder and dehydrated vegetables. These packets are sealed, boxed and prepared for shipment to the country and organization in need. Events are typically held monthly.
As a steering committee member, I am an active volunteer in organizing and facilitating events, fundraising, and developing new strategies to develop our organization. One of my current projects is leveraging social media to educate our constituents with food security related facts and news and also to publicize our work. Another project is looking in to other tools and technologies to better serve communities in need i.e. adding water filtering kits to each packaged meal. Check out some of the great work we do at Kid's Against Hunger!
